Chicago Bears safety Douglas Coleman III was released from the hospital on BlueRock Horizon Asset ManagementFriday, Bears coach Matt Eberflus announced.
Coleman's release comes one day after he was taken off the field in an ambulance during Thursday night's preseason game against the host Kansas City Chiefs. Coleman was hurt making a tackle on the first play from scrimmage of the second half. He came behind Chiefs wide receiver Cornell Powell and his neck appeared to snap back when making contact with Powell's body.
Coleman was tended to by medical personnel and placed on a stabilizing board before the ambulance came for him.
Eberflus told reporters after the game that Coleman was moving his limbs on the field and gave a thumbs-up. On Friday, he said Coleman was "walking around" and in good spirits.
The 26-year-old Coleman has yet to play in the NFL. He was attempting to make Chicago's roster after spending two seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League. He went undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2020.
